One of the most common issues I see in student's painting is too much water in their mixture. Even though watercolor is transparent, too many transparent layers will result in a dirty painting. If you watched any of my recent demos, you'd probably notice that as I add a layer to my painting, my mixture became drier and more opaque. This is necessary for painting with good contrast and color intensity. One VERY simple trick to help you mix a thicker, more opaque painting is to take out the excess water in your brush. You can use a paper towel, sponge, or a rag. This video shows how I do it. It's a straightforward action that you should incorporate in your painting process. Be sure to watch this short video if you haven't.
Step by Step live demo
Since early March, I have been working and staying at home. I hope you have some extra time to paint as well. I am now doing live stream painting demo on YouTube every week. I will be leaving them up on my YouTube channel so you can watch them and follow along if you wish. Here is the latest demo. I hope you stay safe and healthy!
